The Puritan is an online, quarterly publication based in Toronto, Ontario committed to publishing the best in new fiction, poetry, interviews, and reviews.
The Puritan seeks, above all, a pioneering literature. Work featured here may push toward the symbolic frontier, challenging limitations and forging into previously unexplored aesthetic territory. But it may also revisit and revitalize traditional forms. The Puritan embraces work wherever it lands on the conceptual spectrum, so long as it is original, intelligent, and engaging.
So, pull up a chair, crack open the latest issue, and stay a while.

This is a call-out for Issue 11, Summer 2010 - Deadline: August 20
In typical fashion, we plan to release our next issue at the end of the season it claims to represent. So, we're opening our pod-bay doors to submissions of fiction, poetry, reviews, recipes, and interviews. Check out our submission guidelines for more information.
Also, we're open to the idea of considering your artwork for upcoming covers. Potential covers should reflect the general visual theme of our current issue's cover and our wonderful website.
The Puritan: Something You Should Know About
Paul Vermeersch recently included The Puritan as one of his "Four Online Canadian Literary Journals You Should Know About" over at Open Book Toronto. With ditch, the poetry that matters, Joyland, a hub of short fiction, and Forget Magazine as the other three, it looks like we're in good company!
