Triptych
for J.E.
The hands
and wrist
in the kitchen window
slice a tomato
Is this
some sort of riddle?
You can look at something
over and over
without knowing
Open the front door
flip to the middle
of a book
The bay window
is a Bosch
Blood-smeared children
with feet for hands
rabbit-eared, bearded
beheaded
shriek and plead
It’s night
The pumpkins are alight
As a child
he thought grass
was called gorgeous
His mother would
pull up the blinds
and say, Look
it’s gorgeous
